April – Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April has been designated Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). Educating communities and individuals about prevention of sexual violence as well as raising public awareness is the goal of this important campaign. Learn ways to talk to your children about predators and teens about coercion in teen relationships. Learn about adult sexual violence prevention and support. According to the CDC, based on a 2010 survey, an average of 24 people per minute in the United States are victims of rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner. If you are suffering in silence after being a victim, a discussion with your trusted Ob/Gyn doctor could be the place to start.

For more information, go to the SAAM resource section of the National Sexual Violence Resource Center website.

Remember…it is time to talk about it….talk early, talk often.
